Funding A Business

Looking for money in an economy that really doesn’t have any is like trying to find that favorite shirt you used to wear to an important event some 5 years ago and forgot that you took it to a dry cleaners that may or may not still be in business today. Well, in all the work that goes into starting a new business this is a first for me. I have worked for and built my own companies up from the ground in the past but this time I am in need of financing.

You see, to do things right what needs to happen is a major marketing and advertising campaign, permitting and licensing by federal and state agencies, promotional products, corporate set up, events and branding and, oh, let’s not forget making beer, testing it and selling it. There are quite a few things I am doing to pull all of this together.

There are big steps ahead. I have done what I can out of my garage but now it’s time to move up. The government regulations on alcohol are very strict so in order to move things along so I must do things the right way from the beginning.

I have pretty much spent every last cent on getting the brewery this far and so now I am in search of an Angel Investor. Someone that will help me get to the next level. Basically once I have received around fifty grand to start I can get this puppy off the ground, permitted, licensed and out the door to the brewery to make up some beer.

Finding that right Angel Investor is the tough part. I have been talking to around 10 investors that are “very interested” but I don’t see checkbooks coming out and pens furiously scribbling large numbers on them. What we do see is people that taste the beer and say that it’s wonderful and that they would invest but they don’t have money to invest with. Silly me, I thought the point of the meeting was that they did have money and that they were ready to invest.

What seemed originally to be a large number of people all ready and eager to buy into a business that they could have the bragging rights to say “Hey I own a brewery!” is turning into a wild turkey chase to find a few bucks to get started.

It’s odd to look at things and see that wonderful dream and a truly brilliant product sitting there ready for the enjoyment of the masses but to know that only I will be able to enjoy it for now and YOU will have to wait!
